Between a demanding work schedule and busy personal life, it can be hard to find time to run. Add a baby to the mix and any free time you had all but disappears. Fortunately, having a baby doesn’t mean you have to give up your healthy lifestyle. Jogging with your little one is one option to keep fit. Here are our top buggies for jogging with your baby.

Running with your baby is an excellent way to lose weight after pregnancy (and it means you won’t need to arrange a babysitter of ‘schedule it in’ with your significant other!). To get the most from your run though, you need a safe, top-quality jogging stroller. Fortunately, we’ve reviewed some of the latest models on the market for you to consider.

Tip: New mums should also get the all clear from a doctor before embarking on any post-natal activity.

What to look for in a running buggy:

Larger Wheels: Look for dedicated jogging models that have larger wheels. These roll more smoothly at faster paces and are better at absorbing the bumps in pavements and roads.

Wheel position: Most running buggies have a lockable front wheel that can be fixed in a straight-ahead position for stability when running and set to swivel when walking.

Handle height: If two parents plan to use the stroller, look for a model that has an adjustable handle. Many handles click into at least three positions, so shorter runners can jog as comfortably as taller parents. Your shoulders and arms will thank you at the end of any moderately long run behind the wheel.

Handbrake: The best running strollers will also have a handbrake, which comes in handy when stopping to catch your breath at the top of any hills.

Folding: Ensure the pushchair is easy to fold down post-run and that it will fit easily in the boot of your car, or at home.

Below you can find our top 4 jogging buggies which we hope will help you to decide which model is right for you if you want to start jogging with your baby.

This modern hybrid jogger makes light work of bumpy lanes, sandy beaches or hills thanks to its 16 inch rear wheels, smooth suspension and a swivel front wheel that locks into place for more stability.

If you have more than one child then perhaps the Thule Urban Glider 2 Double might be the option for you – all the same benefits, but with space for 2!

It’s very easy to push and has a handle-bar brake as well as a footbrake for keeping your baby safe and ensuring the buggy doesn’t get away from you as your running at pace. At 11.4 kg, it’s one of the lighter jogging strollers and we don’t think you’ll find it a struggle to lift it in and out of the car. If you’re short on space you can also take off the wheels to give you a smaller fold. It’s actually fairly easy to fold, even with one hand.

We liked the high-quality fabrics and it has a good-sized storage basket with a cover to protect your belongings while jogging. It also has a large canopy to keep the baby is the shade during the summer and reflective strips on the wheels and canopy for winter. Thanks to its lightweight and compact design this jogging stroller can be also used as an everyday, urban stroller.

We think it’s a perfect jogging stroller for parents with smaller car boots.

If you’re looking for a durable, reliable runner, the Baby Jogger Summit X3 has plenty of features worth getting your running shoes out for. It has big 16-inch air-filled rubber rear tyres and an all-round suspension system so it performs well at pace and it handles difficult terrain with ease.

It has a wheel lock on the handlebar giving good speed control when going downhill and switching between jogging and strolling. The buggy has a near-flat seat recline too so your little one can sleep comfortably and the huge retractable sun canopy with venting is an added bonus. The easy fold frame makes this a solid choice.

On the downside, there’s only one fabric colour choice, but there are little extras you can buy such as a fleecy hand muff, cup holder, rain cover and handlebar pouch. Also, the handlebar is fixed which may be a downside for those especially taller or shorter people. The wheels can be popped off in seconds and laid on top of the pushchair chassis (or bagged if muddy) to pack very neatly into a car boot.

This is a great choice as an all-terrain / jogging pushchair from a well-respected manufacturer.

3. Mountain Buggy Terrain Jogger

Regular off-road runners should certainly check out Mountain Buggy as they’re suitable for all terrains from hills to rocky trails. It also works well in flat surfaces and comes with two sets of tyres (16in for off-road and 12in for urban pushing), which is great if you are committing to this being your only pushchair. As with other pushchairs shown here, the front wheel can be locked in position to ease running and pushing.

The handlebar height can be adjusted to 11 different positions which means it’s suitable for runners of all size. It also gives you excellent directional stability when you are running over bumpy ground. The brake lever in the centre will help slow the pushchair down when you are jogging downhill. There are pockets in the hood too with an opening for you to thread your headphones through and compartments to store two drink bottles. It also boasts a retractable leg rest and a reasonably compact (free-standing) folded size.

With the optional ‘carrycot plus’ for newborns, we think this buggy is a great comfortable jogging pushchair. Plus it will cover you from birth through the toddler years as an everyday stroller.

Fitness-loving families are already fans of the Out n About Nipper Sport as it’s both light and sturdy. The air-filled wheels and all-round suspension really come together to provide a super smooth and comfortable ride whatever the terrain.

It collapses well and it has an auto-lock for easy transportation too. The pushchair is sturdy yet light (lightest of the 4 models shown here) and you can push it along very easily.

The large air-filled wheels are chunky and robust and give a smooth ride over any bumps. The front swivel wheel can be locked into a fixed position to give you even more stability off-road.

You can decelerate using the squeezy handlebar brake and there’s a lie-flat seat for naps on the go. It is compact when folded (the folded size is smallest of the 4 models shown here) and can be made even smaller by easily popping the wheels off.

The double version of the Out n About Nipper Sport offers the same features as the single but lets your run with 2 children. With a peek-a-boo window, five-point safety harness and removable bumper bar, you can be sure that your children are safe. The double model also fits through standard doorways.

The Nipper Sport is a great jogging pushchair and (unlike some on this list) has a choice of colours.
